Parent Referrals

Kentucky Parent Referral Hotline:

1-877-316-3552

We refer families needing child care to available providers, and we counsel parents about their child care options. These are referrals, not recommendations. On the phone, the counselor will take down information about the child, and the location where child care is needed. They will also ask whether the caller prefers family child, center care, or would like options for both. After receiving that information, the counselor will search our database to find options that will meet the needs of the caller.

The caller will also be informed whether the child care program is Star-Rated. This means the program has met a higher standard of quality than basic licensing or certified standards. A program can be rated from 1 – 4 stars by the state of Kentucky, and the caller will be informed of how many stars a child care program is.

After the call is complete, they will be sent a packet. This includes information on Kentucky regulations, and includes guides for choosing quality child care. These guides helps guardians to judge program elements like adult to child ratios, group sizes, staff education and turnover, and center policies.
